Manufacturer description
Class 55 'Deltic' - BR Blue - 55020 - Nimbus

One of just three Deltics to never receive plated headcode boxes, 55020 is also notable for retaining the mountings for the cab roof horns worn during the early 1960s. Our model is based on its 1976 condition with standard-sized domino headcodes, although alternative smaller dots will be provided.

Accurascale has released a new OO scale model of the Class 55 Deltic diesel locomotive in BR blue livery, specifically the example 55020 'Nimbus'. This model is one of just three Deltics not to have been fitted with plated headcode boxes, and it retains the mountings for the cab roof horns used in the early 1960s.

The model is based on the locomotive's 1976 condition and features standard-sized domino headcodes, although alternative smaller dots are also provided. The locomotive's details are accurate to the real thing, including the revised exhaust style and original headcode panels.

The model is built to a high standard, with a die-cast alloy metal chassis and a highly detailed body. It features separately applied etched metal and high-fidelity plastic detail parts, including grab handles, steps, wipers, nameplates, crests, and more. The model is also DCC ready, with a 21-pin MTX socket, and can be upgraded with factory-fitted DCC sound.

The locomotive's performance is impressive, with a five-pole motor and two flywheels providing high-performance traction. The gearbox is designed for maximum performance and slow-speed running, and the locomotive can achieve a scale top speed of 120 mph. The model also features all-wheel drive and all-wheel pickup.

In terms of lighting, the model has a fully detailed lighting pack, including directional lighting, marker lights, and high-intensity headlight function. The cab lighting and illuminated details are separately switched and will automatically turn off when the train is in motion.

The model comes with OO gauge wheels, which can be re-gauged to P4 or EM gauge. It also features two quality speakers with large sound capsules for improved sound quality, and fully sprung metal buffers. The model has a minimum radius requirement of 438mm, making it suitable for use on second-radius track.
