Accurascale ‘Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry’ Class 55 (002) Deltic is a limited‑edition model released as part of the Rails of Sheffield range. The locomotive is fitted with DCC sound using the ESU Loksound 5 chip and includes interior lighting. It is supplied in two‑tone green with full yellow ends, representing the repainted livery used during the final thirteen months of service before withdrawal on 31 December 1981. The repaint was funded by a grant from the Friends of the National Railway Museum (Era 7).
The model carries the manufacturer part number CL55 (55 002) SOUND and represents the British Rail Blue TOPS period. It features a variety of details such as differing headcode panels, windscreen wiper arrangements, steam‑heat boiler port modifications, sandbox hatch variations and assorted cab fittings. The bogies are cast and fabricated, and the cab includes functional high‑intensity and WIPAC lights as seen in post‑privatisation main‑line operation.
Technical specifications include separately applied metal detail parts, correctly positioned mini‑tension‑lock couplers with NEM sockets, and a fully detailed buffer beam. Propulsion is provided by a five‑pole motor with two flywheels and a metal helical gearbox, delivering a scale top speed of 100 mph. The locomotive is DCC ready with a 21‑pin interface and offers a fully detailed lighting pack with directional, DC and DCC lighting, separate cab lighting and an illuminated driver’s console that switches off on movement.
The model runs on RP25‑110 OO wheels, with provision for re‑gauging to P4 and EM gauge, and includes fully sprung metal buffers, extra‑fine factory‑fitted pipework and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (second radius set‑track).
