Accurascale 55 002 ‘Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry’ Class 55 Deltic in two‑tone green with full yellow ends, launched in 1980. It represents the locomotive’s final repaint for the last thirteen months of service before withdrawal on 31 December 1981, funded partly by a grant from the Friends of the National Railway Museum (Era 7). The model is a limited‑edition release under the “Rails of Sheffield” range and is supplied DCC ready.
The kit includes a metal chassis with cast and fabricated bogies, RP25‑110 OO wheels (compatible with re‑gauging to P4 and EM gauge), fully sprung metal buffers and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (second radius set‑track). Detail parts are separately applied and feature grab handles, steps, wipers, mini‑tension‑lock couplers at the correct height with NEM sockets, and a fully detailed buffer beam.
Electrical specifications comprise a high‑performance five‑pole motor with two flywheels and a metal helical gearbox, geared for a scale top speed of 100 mph. The DCC interface uses a 21‑pin plug, and the lighting pack offers directional, DC and DCC‑controlled lights, including high‑intensity and WIPAC headlights, separate cab lighting, illuminated driver’s console and switch‑off markers when coupled to another locomotive.
Optional variations cover differing headcode panel layouts, windscreen wiper arrangements, steam‑heat boiler ports, ETS connections, cab‑side window fills, sandbox hatch types, cab air vents and horn placements, allowing modelers to replicate a range of historical configurations.
