Built by Powell and Duffryn these high capacity wagons were originally bought by ARC and wore the distinctive ARC livery but have since changed to wearing Hanson’s livery. They have on occasion also been seen sporting plain grey to hide graffiti
The fleet is noticeable for its use of distinctive inside bearing TF1 low track force bogies. There are a few variants of the hopper. The outer hoppers are numbered 17xxx and the inner hoppers are numbered 19xxx. Only the most distal end of the outer hoppers are fitted with buffers, all wagons are fitted with buckeye couplings.

The Dapol model of the P & D JHA Middle Hopper wagon is a new release featuring a Hanson Blue & Grey livery. This model represents a wagon built by Powell Duffryn in 1990 to 1991 for Hanson, a company that operated a fleet of these high capacity wagons.
The model is designed to represent the initial privatisation period and features a diecast chassis, profiled wheels, and sprung buffers on the outermost end. The close coupling mechanism allows for operation on a minimum radius of 438mm. The outer wagon end will feature a working rear lamp, with a 6-pin DCC socket for control of the flashing lamp.
The model will be available in both inner and outer versions, with the inner wagon featuring buckeye couplings and no buffers, and the outer wagon featuring a lamp, sprung buffers, and a standard OO model coupling with a NEM pocket. The model will be finished with a high level of detail, including separately added features.
The real-life P & D JHA Hopper wagons were built by Powell Duffryn and operated by Hanson, with some wagons also wearing plain grey livery to disguise graffiti. The fleet is notable for its use of inside bearing TF1 low track force bogies, and the wagons are often seen numbered in the 17xxx and 19xxx ranges, with the outer hoppers having buffers only at the most distant end.
