Prototype Era
Era 9 (1995 to 2004) Initial Privatisation
The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.
The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.
MODEL
These model O&K JHA Hoppers are highly detailed and will be a great addition to your rolling stock.

Dapol O & K JHA (end hopper) OO model in Foster Yeoman livery, DCC 6 compatible, represents the initial privatisation era of the late 1980s. The prototype wagons were built by Orenstein & Koppel between 1988 and 1989 for aggregate haulage with Class 59 locomotives and remain in service with Mendip Rail Ltd.
The model features a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels and high‑level detailing derived from works drawings. Outer wagons include sprung buffers, a rear lamp and a standard OO model coupling with an NEM pocket, while inner wagons lack buffers and use buckeye couplings. Both versions are fitted with a close‑coupling mechanism suitable for a minimum curve radius of 438 mm.
Key specifications: length over buffers 182 mm, width 33 mm, height 48 mm; built to manufacturer part number 4F‑050‑002, with power pickup on two of four axles and NEM / Buckeye (inner) and Buckeye & Tension Lock (outer) couplings. An accessory pack provides two types of inter‑wagon pipe, one loose and one flexible, and a DC directional rear lamp controllable via a six‑pin DCC socket.
