Manufacturer description
The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

MODEL
These model O&K JHA Hoppers are highly detailed and will be a great addition to your rolling stock.

Dapol O & K JHA (middle hopper) OO – Foster Yeoman 19370 is a highly detailed OO scale model of the Orenstein & Koppel JHA hopper wagon that was built for Foster Yeoman between 1988 and 1989. The wagons were introduced alongside the Class 59 locomotives for aggregate haulage and continue in service with Mendip Rail Ltd. The model represents the initial privatisation era.

The model reproduces the distinctive two‑type configuration of the real wagons: outer wagons carry lamp, sprung buffers and a standard OO coupling with an NEM pocket, while inner wagons are fitted with buckeye couplings and have no buffers. Both versions feature a close‑coupling mechanism that operates on a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (Radius 2). An accessory pack provides interchangeable inter‑wagon pipes, and the outermost wagon includes a working rear lamp controllable via a 6‑pin DCC socket.

Physical dimensions are 182 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm in width and 48 mm in height. The model includes a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels, sprung buffers on the outermost wagons, and a high level of individually added detail, all derived from original works drawings.
