Manufacturer description

The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

MODEL
These model O&K JHA Hoppers are highly detailed and will be a great addition to your rolling stock.

Dapol O & K JHA (middle hopper) OO model, in Foster Yeoman livery, part number 4F‑050‑103. The prototype wagons were built by Orenstein & Koppel between 1988 and 1989 and represent the British Rail sectorisation period.

The O & K JHA hoppers were introduced to accompany the Class 59 locomotives for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake consists of two outer wagons, which have screw‑link couplings, buffers and a rear lamp, and a number of inner wagons fitted with buckeye couplings to achieve a shorter overall train length.

The model includes a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels and is produced from works drawings. Outer wagons feature sprung buffers, a standard OO coupling with an NEM pocket at one end and a buckeye coupling at the other; inner wagons have no buffers and use buckeye couplings. Both versions carry a close‑coupling mechanism that operates on a minimum 438 mm radius curve. An accessory pack supplies two types of inter‑connecting pipe – loose and flexible – and a working rear lamp (DC directional, 6‑pin DCC socket) that flashes.

Measurements: length over buffer 182 mm, width 33 mm, height 48 mm.
