The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.
The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

The Dapol O & K JHA (middle hopper) Foster Yeoman 19330 Early model is an OO gauge representation of a wagon built by Orenstein & Koppel in 1988 to 1989. The O & K JHA hoppers were originally designed for use with the Class 59 locomotives by Foster Yeoman for aggregate haulage. The prototype wagons remain in service with Mendip Rail Ltd to date, typically forming a rake of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.
The model features a diecast chassis, profiled wheels, and is designed from works drawings. It includes sprung buffers on the outermost wagons and a close coupling mechanism allowing operation on a minimum radius of 438mm. The model is available in inner and outer wagon versions, with the latter featuring a lamp, sprung buffers, and a standard OO model coupling with an NEM pocket at one end.
The model is highly detailed, with separately added details including pipework and a working rear lamp on the outermost end of the train. The lamp is controlled via a 6-pin DCC socket. The model measures 182mm in length, 33mm in width, and 48mm in height.
