The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.
The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.
MODEL
These model O&K JHA Hoppers are highly detailed and will be a great addition to your rolling stock.

Dapol OO‑scale model of an Orenstein & Koppel JHA middle‑hopper, liveried for Foster Yeoman (reference Foster Yeoman 19337). The model represents the British Rail sectorisation period and is based on the original wagons built between 1988 and 1989 for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman, now operated by Mendip Rail Ltd.
The original JHA wagons have a bogie wheel arrangement, a minimum curve radius of 2 m, and pick up power from two of their four axles. Outer wagons are fitted with screw‑link couplings, buffers and a rear lamp, while inner wagons use buckeye couplings without buffers, allowing a reduced overall train length.
The model includes a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels and sprung buffers on the outermost wagons. Both inner and outer versions are supplied, each with the appropriate couplings and a working rear lamp operated via a 6‑pin DCC socket. An accessory pack provides two types of inter‑wagon pipe, one loose and one flexible for connecting adjacent wagons.
Physical dimensions are 182 mm over buffers, 33 mm wide and 48 mm high. The model is produced from works drawings and finished with a high level of detail, including separately added components.
