Manufacturer description

The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

The Dapol O & K JHA (middle hopper) Foster Yeoman 19325 Early model is a new addition to the range, representing a wagon built by Orenstein & Koppel in 1988 to 1989.

This model is a highly detailed replica of the real-life O&K JHA hoppers, which were introduced to coincide with the Class 59 locomotives in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. The wagons remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd, and a typical rake consists of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The model features many accurate details, including a diecast chassis, profiled wheels, and sprung buffers on the outermost wagons. The inner and outer versions of the hopper are included, with the outer wagons featuring a lamp, sprung buffers, and a standard OO model coupling with a NEM pocket, while the inner wagons have buckeye couplings and no buffers.

The model has a close coupling mechanism that allows it to operate on a minimum radius of 438mm, and an accessory pack is included with two versions of interconnecting pipes. The outermost end of the train features a working rear lamp, which can be controlled using a 6-pin DCC socket.

The measurements of the model are: length over buffer 182mm, width 33mm, and height 48mm. The gauge is OO, and it is designed for use with minimum radius curves of 2.
