Prototype Eras
Era 9 (1995 to 2004) Initial Privatisation
Era 10 (2005 to 2015) Rebuilding of the Railways
Built by Powell and Duffryn these high capacity wagons were originally bought by ARC and wore the distinctive ARC livery but have since changed to wearing Hanson’s livery. They have on occasion also been seen sporting plain grey to hide graffiti
The fleet is noticeable for its use of distinctive inside bearing TF1 low track force bogies. There are a few variants of the hopper. The outer hoppers are numbered 17xxx and the inner hoppers are numbered 19xxx. Only the most distal end of the outer hoppers are fitted with buffers, all wagons are fitted with buckeye couplings.

The Dapol model of the P & D JHA Hopper wagon is a representation of a type of wagon built by Powell Duffryn between 1990 and 1991. The original wagons were owned by ARC and wore the ARC livery, but have since been seen with Hanson's livery and even plain grey to conceal graffiti.
The real wagons are notable for their distinctive inside bearing TF1 low track force bogies and are classified as P&D JHA (End Hopper) wagons. There are two variants, with the outer wagons numbered in the 17xxx series and the inner wagons in the 19xxx series. The outer wagons have a lamp and sprung buffers at one end, while the inner wagons have no buffers and are fitted with buckeye couplings.
The Dapol model will feature an inner and outer version of the hopper wagon, each with its own unique features. The inner wagon will have no buffers and buckeye couplings, while the outer wagon will have a lamp, sprung buffers, and a standard OO model coupling with a NEM pocket at one end. The model will have a diecast chassis, profiled wheels, and a close coupling mechanism that can operate on a minimum radius of 438mm.
The model will also feature a working rear lamp on the outer most end, with a 6-pin DCC socket for control of the flashing lamp. The level of detail on the model is high, with many separately added details. The design is based on works drawings and has been corrected to reflect the actual underframe detailing.
The model is designed to represent the initial privatisation period, during which time the wagons were owned by ARC and wore the distinctive ARC livery.
