The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

Dapol OO model of an Orenstein & Koppel JHA hopper, supplied in the Foster Yeoman livery. The model represents British Rail sectorisation and is based on wagons built between 1988‑1989. It carries the manufacturer part number 4F‑050‑101 and is designed for a minimum curve radius of 2 (approximately 438 mm).

The real JHA hoppers were introduced to coincide with the arrival of Class 59 locomotives for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman and remain in service with Mendip Rail Ltd. A typical rake comprises two outer wagons with screw‑link couplings, buffers and a rear lamp, and a number of inner wagons fitted with buckeye couplings but without buffers, allowing a reduced overall train length.

Model features include a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels, sprung buffers on the outermost wagons, and close‑coupling mechanisms on both inner and outer versions. An accessory pack provides two types of inter‑connecting pipe – loose and flexible – and a working rear lamp controlled via a 6‑pin DCC socket. The model measures 182 mm over buffers, 33 mm wide and 48 mm high.
