Manufacturer description

The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.

The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

The Dapol O & K JHA (middle hopper) Foster Yeoman model is a OO gauge representation of a rail wagon built by Orenstein & Koppel for Foster Yeoman in the late 1980s. The real-life wagons were designed to work with the Class 59 locomotives and are still in service with Mendip Rail Ltd.

The model features a highly detailed design, including a diecast chassis, profiled wheels, and sprung buffers. It is available in two versions, representing the inner and outer wagons of a rake. The inner wagons are equipped with buckeye couplings and no buffers, while the outer wagons have standard OO model couplings and sprung buffers, as well as buckeye couplings on the opposite end.

Key features of the model include a close coupling mechanism that allows it to operate on minimum radius curves of 438mm, as well as a working rear lamp on the outermost end of the train. The model is designed from works drawings and includes many separately added details. The pack includes two versions of interconnecting pipes and a 6-pin DCC socket for control of the lamp.

The model measures 182mm in length, 33mm in width, and 48mm in height. It is suitable for OO gauge layouts and is a highly detailed addition to any rolling stock collection.
