The O&K JHA hoppers were built by Orenstein & Koppel to coincide with the introduction of the Class 59’s in the UK for aggregate haulage by Foster Yeoman. They remain in service to date with Mendip Rail Ltd. A rake of these wagons consist of two outer wagons and a number of inner wagons.
The notable feature is that the two outer wagons have screw link couplings and buffers on the outer most edge of the train, whilst the connection between inner wagons is a buckeye style coupling allowing closer coupling and hence an overall reduction in length of the train which was considered an important design aim.

Dapol O & K JHA (end hopper) OO, part number 4F-050-001, is a highly detailed O scale model of the Orenstein & Koppel JHA hopper used by Foster Yeoman for aggregate haulage. The model represents the period of the initial privatisation of British rail freight and is supplied in the Foster Yeoman livery.
The original wagons were built by Orenstein & Koppel between 1988 and 1989 and continue in service with Mendip Rail Ltd. A typical rake consists of two outer wagons with screw‑link couplings and buffers, and a number of inner wagons using buckeye couplings, a design intended to shorten overall train length.
The model features a die‑cast chassis, profiled wheels, and sprung buffers on the outermost wagons. Inner wagons are supplied without buffers and with buckeye couplings, while outer wagons include a lamp, sprung buffers and a standard OO model coupling with an NEM pocket at one end. A close‑coupling mechanism enables operation on a minimum curve radius of 438 mm, and a working rear lamp on the outermost wagon is controlled via a 6‑pin DCC socket.
