Manufacturer description

9600 was the first loco from lot 352, which completed at Swindon in Feb of 1945. An engine that didn’t have to travel far to its first allocation of Swindon shed! It moved to Bristol SPM (82B) in 1961 before moving on to South Wales. Withdrawn from Ebbw Junction (86B) and was withdrawn in September 1965. Luckily it was purchased by the national coal board and moved to Merthyr Vale Colliery where it would work until 1973. From here it was purchased by 7029 Clun Castle Ltd, it moved to their base at the former Tyseley depot in Birmingham, now home to Vintage Trains. The locomotives overhaul was completed in 1999; it was restored to the highest possible standard and was one of the famous “Tyseley Panniers” which were certified to run at speeds of up to 45mph on the main line. It served two boiler tickets on the main line, both supplementing charters as banking engines or as main tour locomotives themselves, it could often be found paired with L94 making quite a striking looking pair!
