Accurascale has released a new model of the GWR 57xx Pannier Tank, a 0-6-0 tank locomotive that was built between 1929 and 1950. This model is available in GWR Great Western Green livery and features a highly detailed design with a coreless motor, flywheel, and die-cast metal chassis.

The 57xx Pannier Tank was a standard locomotive designed by Charles B Collett for the GWR, with 100 locomotives built in the early 1930s. The class was later extended to nearly 800 members, with the last batch completed by British Railways in 1950. The locomotives were used for a variety of tasks, including shunting, freight, and passenger services, and were classified as 'blue' locomotives under the GWR's route restriction policy.

The pannier tank design was a significant improvement over earlier locomotives, with a Belpaire firebox and pannier tanks that provided improved stability and water capacity. The class was later modified with a larger cab and became the 8750 class, with nearly 500 locomotives built to this design.

The Accurascale model of the 57xx Pannier Tank is designed to be DCC ready, with a Next18 interface or ESU LokSound V5 sound system available. The model features a highly detailed cab interior, etched metal and plastic detail parts, and a sliding roof ventilator. The model is also fitted with a powerPack capacitor, two sugar cube speakers, and a magnetically removable smokebox door.

In addition to its use on the GWR and British Railways, the 57xx Pannier Tank class was also used by London Transport and the National Coal Board after being withdrawn from service. Many of the locomotives were preserved, with 16 still surviving today and some even being re-certified for mainline use.

The Accurascale model is a highly detailed representation of this iconic locomotive, with a wide range of features and options available. It is suitable for use on 00 gauge tracks with a minimum radius of 438mm, and is available in a range of liveries and configurations.
