Accurascale's 5700 Class 57xx Pannier Tank model is a highly detailed representation of a GWR 0-6-0 tank locomotive in GWR Shirtbutton Green livery. This model is based on the real-life class of locomotives that were introduced in the 1920s and remained in service until the 1970s.

The real-life 5700 Class locomotives were designed by Charles B Collett and were built between 1929 and 1950 by various manufacturers, including the GWR's own Swindon Works and contractors such as North British Locomotive Company and Armstrong Whitworth. The class was developed from the earlier rebuilt 2721 class and featured a Belpaire boiler, inside cylinders, and pannier tanks.

The class was designed to be a standard, lightweight, and powerful tank locomotive that could be used for a variety of tasks, including shunting, short trip freight work, and branch line passenger services. The locomotives were classified as 'blue' locomotives under the GWR's route restriction policy, which allowed them to be used on a wide range of routes.

In the 1950s, the class was gradually withdrawn from service, with the first withdrawals taking place in 1956. However, many locomotives were preserved and are still in operation today, with 16 examples remaining in preservation, including eight from the 5700 class and eight from the 8750 class. Some of these preserved locomotives have even been re-certified for mainline use and have run on excursion trains at speeds of up to 45mph.
