The Accurascale 5700 Class 57xx Pannier Tank model is a 0-6-0PT locomotive in BR black with early emblem livery, accurate to the period of British Railways Early Crest. The model features a highly detailed die-cast metal chassis, coreless motor, and RP25-110 profile 00 gauge wheels. It is designed for 00 gauge track and has a minimum radius of 438mm. The model includes a range of features such as etched metal and plastic details, a fully detailed cab interior, and a removable smokebox door.
The 5700 Class Pannier Tank was a standard locomotive designed by Charles B Collett for the Great Western Railway in the 1920s. The class was built between 1929 and 1950, with a total of 800 locomotives produced. The pannier tank design was chosen for its stability and water capacity, and it became a staple of the Great Western and later British Railways western region network. The locomotives were used for a variety of tasks, including shunting, freight work, and passenger services.
The class was withdrawn from service between 1956 and 1966, with some locomotives being preserved for museum use. Others were purchased by London Transport and the National Coal Board, where they continued to work until the 1970s. Today, 16 surviving locomotives from the 5700 and 8750 classes are preserved and can be found on preserved branch lines. A few have even been re-certified for mainline use and have run on excursion trains at speeds of up to 45mph.
