Manufacturer description

7754. NCB Green Livery

Another product of the North British Locomotive Company was 7754. Outshopped in 1930 it was allocated to Reading where it would be seen working all manner of trains. Following periods at Old Oak Common and Wellington it was withdrawn from service in 1959. Purchased by the NCB for use in South Wales, it went first to Talywain Colliery before being transferred to the new Mountain Ash system where it worked until 1975. Despite interest from many private individuals, the NCB donated it to the National Museum of Wales who placed it on permanent loan to the Llangollen Railway where it was restored to steam in 1994. It has just returned from a major overhaul and can be seen still working serviced on the Llangollen Railway

Features: Top feed boiler, Bunker steps fitted, Injector overflow routed outside running plate, Toolbox and steam heat removed by NCB

Accurascale has released a new model of the GWR 57xx/67xx/8750 class 0-6-0PT pannier tank locomotive in NCB green livery, numbered 7754. This model is designed for 00 gauge track and is 1:76.2 scale. The locomotive features a detailed specification, including a die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels, a coreless motor with flywheel, and a Next18 DCC ready or ESU LokSound V5 sound system.

The GWR 57xx class was introduced in the early 20th century as a standard, go-anywhere locomotive design. The class was developed from the rebuilt 2721 class and was designed to be lightweight, powerful, and easy to maintain. Over 800 members of the class were built, with the first 300 locomotives being constructed between 1908 and 1911. The class was later modified to include the 8750 class, which featured a larger and more comfortable cab.

The pannier tanks were widely used on the Great Western Railway and later on British Railways, hauling various types of traffic including local passenger services, freight trains, and shunting duties. The class was eventually withdrawn from service between 1956 and 1966, with some locomotives being sold to London Transport and the National Coal Board. Several members of the class were preserved and are now operated by heritage railways and have even been re-certified for mainline use.
