Manufacturer description

Built at Swindon by the GWR as part of lot 325 in 1939, 3650 would move to Tyseley depot in Birmingham. It would stay here until moved to Wales during 1953 via a short 2 month stay at Bristol Bath Road (82A). Upon withdrawal from Neath (87A) in September 1963. Instead of scrapping, 3650 was sold to Stephenson Clarke Ltd, a private colliery operator at Gwaun-cae-Gurwen in South Wales, where it was painted blue with red “Stephenson Clarke” lettering along the tanks. After they had finished with it, it was sold to a member of the Great Western Society who moved it to Hereford where it would enter preservation. There was more work required than initially anticipated and the locomotive was transferred to another owner and moved to Didcot Railway Centre. After a lengthy restoration it steamed for the first time in preservation on the 23rd of July 2008. After initially appearing in its “Stephenson Clarke” blue livery, it has since been repainted to GWR shirtbutton livery. Its last boiler ticket expired in 2016 and is undergoing overhaul to return it to working condition
