Here is a summary of the Accurascale 5700 Class 57xx Pannier Tank model:
The Accurascale model is a highly detailed 0-6-0PT Great Western Railway (GWR) pannier tank locomotive, No. 5754, in GWR green livery. The model is built in 1:76.2 scale and is suitable for 16.5mm track. It features a coreless motor with a flywheel, die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels, and Next18 DCC readiness or ESU LokSound V5 sound. The model is highly detailed, with etched metal and plastic parts, including grab handles, steps, buffer pipework, and lamp irons.
The GWR 5700 class pannier tank locomotives were a standard design built between 1929 and 1950, with over 800 members of the class being built. They were designed by Charles B Collett and featured a Belpaire boiler, inside cylinders, and pannier tanks. The class was further divided into several sub-classes, including the 6700 and 6750 classes, which were built without steam heat and vacuum braking.
The pannier tanks were used on a wide range of duties, including local passenger services, freight trains, and shunting duties. They were classified as 'blue' locomotives under the GWR's route restriction policy, allowing them to be used on a wide range of lines. The locomotives were withdrawn from service between 1956 and 1966, but many were preserved and are still operating today on preserved branch lines. Some have even been re-certified for mainline use and have appeared on excursion trains reaching speeds of up to 45mph.
