Manufacturer description

7754. NCB Green Livery

Another product of the North British Locomotive Company was 7754. Outshopped in 1930 it was allocated to Reading where it would be seen working all manner of trains. Following periods at Old Oak Common and Wellington it was withdrawn from service in 1959. Purchased by the NCB for use in South Wales, it went first to Talywain Colliery before being transferred to the new Mountain Ash system where it worked until 1975. Despite interest from many private individuals, the NCB donated it to the National Museum of Wales who placed it on permanent loan to the Llangollen Railway where it was restored to steam in 1994. It has just returned from a major overhaul and can be seen still working serviced on the Llangollen Railway

Features: Top feed boiler, Bunker steps fitted, Injector overflow routed outside running plate, Toolbox and steam heat removed by NCB

Accurascale's 5700 Class 57xx Pannier Tank model is a highly detailed 0-6-0 tank locomotive, accurate to the NCB livery, and is available in 00 gauge. The model features a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and a coreless motor with flywheel for maximum performance and slow speed running. The locomotive is DCC sound equipped, with a Next18 ready or ESU LokSound V5 sound option, and features a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power. The model includes etched metal and plastic detail parts, a fully detailed cab interior, and a sliding roof ventilator.

The 5700 Class 57xx Pannier Tank was a standardised locomotive design developed by the Great Western Railway in the early 20th century, designed to be a lightweight yet powerful tank locomotive that could be used on a variety of duties. The design was based on the Belpaire boiler, inside cylinders and Stephenson's valve gear, and was equipped with pannier tanks. The first 100 locomotives were built by the North British Locomotive Company and the Great Western's own workshops at Swindon, with a further 200 locomotives ordered from six contractors.

The 5700 class was used extensively on the Great Western and later British Railways western region network, and were classified as 'blue' locomotives, allowing them to be used on most of the network. They were later reclassified as 'yellow' locomotives, allowing them to be used on even more routes. The locomotives were used for a variety of duties, including freight trains, shunting yards, branch line passenger services, and ECS and pilot duties.

The first withdrawals of the class began in 1956, and continued until 1966, with many locomotives being cut and disposed of. However, some locomotives were purchased by London Transport and the National Coal Board, where they continued to work until the 1970s. Today, 16 surviving locomotives from the 5700 and 8750 classes are preserved, with four of them re-certified for mainline use and used on excursion trains.
