Prototype Era
Era 4 (1948 to 1956) British Railways Early Crest
8763. British Railways Lined black livery, with Early Emblem
This locomotive was built at Swindon in 1933 and allocated to Old Oak Common where it spent its entire working life. By the early 1950s many panniers were fitted with top feed boilers. In contrast to the more common plain black livery, 8763 was treated to full mixed traffic lining as its duties included working empty coaching stock in and out of London Paddington. It was withdrawn in 1962.
Features: Top feed boiler, 8750 style cab, Bunker steps fitted, Injector overflow routed outside running plate.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Accurascale has released a new model of a 0-6-0 tank locomotive representing the BR Early Emblem lined black livery of the 8750 Class Pannier Tank. This model is designed for 00 gauge enthusiasts and features a range of detailed components, including a die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels. The locomotive is DCC sound equipped, with a Next18 DCC ready or ESU LokSound V5 sound fitted, and features a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power. The model is also fitted with a small, flexible neck NEM coupler mounts and brake rigging.
The 8750 Class Pannier Tank was a class of 0-6-0 locomotives built for the Great Western Railway between 1929 and 1950. The class was designed by Charles B Collett and was intended to be a standard, go-anywhere locomotive that was easy to maintain and handle. The class comprised over 800 locomotives, with the first 100 being built at Swindon and the North British Locomotive Company. The class was later expanded to include the 6700 and 6750 classes, which were built without steam heat and used primarily for shunting and short trip freight work.
The 8750 Class Pannier Tanks were widely used on the Great Western and later British Railways network, and were employed on a variety of tasks, including local pick-up freight trains, shunting yards, branch line passenger services, and ECS and pilot duties. The class was eventually withdrawn from service in 1966, but some locomotives were sold to London Transport and the National Coal Board, where they continued to work until the 1970s.
A number of 8750 Class Pannier Tanks have been preserved, with 16 locomotives still in existence. Some of these have been re-certified for mainline use and have been seen on excursion trains running at speeds of up to 45mph.
