Accurascale has released a 0-6-0PT tank locomotive model, replicating the Great Western Railway's 57xx class locomotive in GWR green livery. This model is designed for 00 gauge track and features a 1:76.2 scale representation of the locomotive.

The model is built to precise specifications, including a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile 00 gauge wheels, and a coreless motor with a flywheel for maximum performance and slow speed running. It also features a Next18 DCC ready or ESU LokSound V5 sound system, which is slot-mounted in the smokebox.

The model includes a range of detailed features, such as scale width wire handrails, sand pipes, and etched metal/plastic detail parts, including grab handles, steps, and buffer pipework. The cab interior is fully detailed, with a twin LED pulsing/steady firebox glow, and the model features a sliding roof ventilator and etched metal pre-painted number plates and works plates.

The 57xx class locomotive was a significant development for the Great Western Railway, designed to provide a standard, lightweight, and powerful tank locomotive for the network. The first 100 locomotives were built between 1929 and 1930, with further orders placed over the next two decades. The class proved to be highly versatile and was used for a wide range of duties, including local pick-up freight trains, shunting yards, branch line passenger services, and ECS duties.

Over 800 locomotives were built, with the first withdrawals starting in 1956 and continuing until 1966. Some locomotives were preserved and are now operated by heritage railways, with four having been re-certified for mainline use.
