Manufacturer description

Box vans were the workhorses of the early freight industry, moving general merchandise and perishable goods and thousands were built over several designs and over a large time period. The Southern Railway style box van as modelled by Dapol had distinctive vents and a wrap over roof profile.

It was built at Ashford during the years of the World War II and vans were sold to other rail operators such as GWR and LMS. The wagon continued into service into the 1960s under BR.

The Dapol Unpainted Box Van is a model of a Southern Railway style box van, built to represent the late period of British Railways. It is designed to be a generic representation of a box van, unadorned with any specific livery or branding.

The model measures 82mm in length, 33mm in width, and 48mm in height. It features a highly detailed body, finely moulded profiled wheels, and NEM pockets with self-centring couplings.

The box van was a common sight on British railways, used to transport general merchandise and perishable goods. Thousands were built over several designs and time periods, including during World War II. The model is built to represent the period from 1935 to 1945, when the vans were built at Ashford and later sold to other operators such as the Great Western Railway and London, Midland and Scottish Railway.

The model is designed to be compatible with OO gauge models and features a tension lock coupling.
