Rapido model SER/SECR 5‑Plank 10 ton Open Wagon – SECR Maunsell Dark Grey No. 8663. Manufacturer part number 824016. The kit is supplied ready‑to‑run in 1:76 scale (OO gauge) and is intended for the pre‑grouping period of the South Eastern Railway and its successor, the South Eastern and Chatham Railway.

The model features a square‑ended body with split‑spoke wheels running in metal bearings, NEM coupler pockets and a high level of detailing both above and below the floor line. The livery is applied in a high‑quality SECR Maunsell dark grey finish, matching historical specifications.

The prototype wagons were introduced between 1897 and 1901 to meet a sharp rise in freight traffic on the South Eastern Railway. About 1 250 open wagons were constructed, split between Diagram 1340 (5‑Plank Open Goods) and Diagram 1341 (5‑Plank Open Coal). They were 15 ft 5 in long with a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase and were built by Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and the railway’s own Ashford Works.

The Southern Railway inherited most of these wagons after the grouping of the railways on 1 January 1923. The last D1340 examples were withdrawn in 1942 and the final D1341 wagons in 1948. This model captures the appearance of these historic open wagons as they would have been seen in SECR livery.
