SER/SECR 5‑plank 10‑ton open wagon – model No. 8141, colour: SECR Maunsell dark grey. The model is produced to 1:76 (OO gauge) scale and carries the manufacturer part number 824012. It represents a pre‑grouping vehicle that was built for the South Eastern Railway (SER) and later the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR) between 1897 and 1901.

The original wagons were constructed in two closely related diagrams, SR D1340 (round‑ended open goods) and SR D1341 (open coal). Both measured 15 ft 5 in in overall length with a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase and were rated at 10 tons. The main visual difference lay in the end profiles: D1340 had round ends, while D1341 featured low‑D shaped ends with a Williams pattern sheet rail. Many examples were later altered to square ends in 1912.

Production was carried out by Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and the railway’s own Ashford Works, with subcontracting making exact builder totals uncertain. Approximately 1 250 wagons were built to address the rapid growth in freight traffic on the SER and the subsequent amalgamation with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway in 1899.

The Southern Railway inherited the majority of the fleet after the 1923 grouping. Withdrawals began during the Second World War, with the last D1340 scrapped in 1942 and the final D1341 in 1948. The model features split‑spoke wheels with metal bearings, NEM coupler pockets, high‑detail panels above and below the floor line and a high‑quality livery finish.
