Rapido SER/SECR 5‑Plank 10‑ton Open Wagon – SER Red No 8879 is a 1:76 (OO gauge) model of a late‑19th‑century British railway wagon. The part is supplied by Rapido under manufacturer part number 824004 and represents the pre‑grouping era of the South Eastern Railway (SER) and its successor, the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR).

The prototype wagons were built between 1897 and 1901 by Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and the SER’s Ashford Works. They were produced to two very similar diagrams, SR D1340 (Open Goods) and SR D1341 (Open Coal), each 15 ft 5 in long with a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase. The principal visual difference was the low‑D shaped ends on the D1341 version versus the rounded ends on the D1340. The wagons entered service as the SER merged with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway to form the SECR in 1899, and the majority passed to the Southern Railway on 01/01/1923. Withdrawals began during the Second World War, the last D1340 being retired in 1942 and the final D1341 in 1948.

The model reproduces the historic details in a high level of accuracy: split‑spoke wheels running in metal bearings, detailed plating above and below the floor line, a faithfully applied SER red livery (No 8879), and NEM coupler pockets. It is intended for use on OO gauge track and is appropriate for enthusiasts building period‑accurate British railway layouts.
