Rapido SER/SECR 5‑plank 10 ton open wagon – SE&CR Wainwright Light Grey No 8629. Manufacturer part number 824008. The model represents a pre‑grouping wagon built for the South Eastern Railway (SER) and later the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR).

In the final decade of the 19th century freight traffic on the SER increased sharply. To cope, the railway hired wagons and then ordered about 2 000 additional prototypes from independent builders and from its Ashford Works. After the 1899 amalgamation of the SER with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway, the joint management committee ordered a further 1 250 open wagons, split between diagram 1340 (goods) and diagram 1341 (coal). Construction took place between 1897 and 1901 at Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and Ashford Works, with subcontracting making exact builder totals unclear.

Both diagrams are 15 ft 5 in long with a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase. The principal visual difference is the end shape: diagram 1341 bears low‑D‑shaped ends with a Williams pattern sheet rail, whereas diagram 1340 has rounded ends. Square‑ended versions were later converted in 1912 by removing the rounded ends. Although diagram 1341 was shown as an open coal wagon in Southern Railway drawings, the SER described it as an “open goods or coal wagon” and it was used for both purposes.

The majority of the wagons passed to the Southern Railway on the 1923 grouping. They were gradually withdrawn, the last D1340 being retired in 1942 and the last D1341 in 1948, by which time their running numbers were likely recorded only in departmental stock.

The model is supplied in 1:76 scale (OO gauge) with split‑spoke wheels on metal bearings, NEM coupler pockets, high‑detail floor‑line work, and a high‑quality Wainwright light‑grey livery applied to both sides.
