Rapido SER/SECR 5‑plank 10‑ton open wagon – SE&CR Wainwright Light Grey No. 7959 is a 1:76 scale (OO gauge) model, supplied under manufacturer part number 824005. The item represents a pre‑grouping South Eastern Railway (SER) and South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR) wagon, originally built between 1897 and 1901.

The wagon was one of about 1 250 open wagons ordered to meet the surge in freight traffic in the final decade of the 19th century. Construction was carried out by Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and the railway’s own Ashford Works, often with subcontracting that makes precise production numbers uncertain.

Both diagram 1340 (open goods) and diagram 1341 (open coal) share a 15 ft 5 in overall length and a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase. The primary visual difference is the end shape: diagram 1340 has round ends, while diagram 1341 features low‑D shaped ends with Williams pattern sheet rail. The model includes split‑spoke wheels running in metal bearings, NEM coupler pockets, a high‑level of detail above and below the floor line, and a quality application of the SE&CR Wainwright Light Grey livery.

The wagons entered service with the SER, continued under the SECR after the 1899 amalgamation with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway, and were largely taken over by the Southern Railway following the 1923 grouping. The last examples of diagram 1340 were withdrawn in 1942 and those of diagram 1341 in 1948, by which time they had generally been relegated to departmental stock.
