Rapido SER/SECR 5‑Plank 10 ton open wagon – SECR Maunsell Dark Grey No. 9567. The model bears manufacturer part number 824015 and represents a pre‑grouping vehicle from the South Eastern Railway (SER) and later the South Eastern and Chatham Railway (SECR).

The wagon was introduced in the final decade of the 19th century to meet a rapid increase in freight traffic on the SER. Around 2 000 wagons of various prototypes were ordered from independent builders and from the railway’s Ashford Works, and after the 1899 amalgamation with the London, Chatham and Dover Railway the design continued under the SECR banner.

Between 01/01/1897 and 31/12/1901 a total of about 1 250 open wagons were constructed, split almost evenly between diagram 1340 (5‑Plank Open Goods) and diagram 1341 (5‑Plank Open Coal). Builders included Ashbury Railway Carriage and Iron Co, Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Co, Oldbury Railway Carriage and Wagon Co and the railway’s own Ashford Works, with subcontracting making exact numbers per builder uncertain. Both diagrams measured 15 ft 5 in in length with a 9 ft 4 in wheelbase; the principal visual distinction was the low‑D‑shaped ends and Williams‑pattern sheet rail on the diagram 1341 coal version, versus the round ends of diagram 1340.

The majority of the wagons passed to the Southern Railway on 01/01/1923. They were gradually withdrawn, the last diagram 1340 wagon being retired on 31/12/1942 and the final diagram 1341 wagon on 31/12/1948, by which stage they had likely been taken into departmental stock and their original running numbers were no longer recorded.

The Rapido model is produced in 1 : 76 scale (OO gauge) and includes split‑spoke wheels with metal bearings, NEM coupler pockets, high‑detail floor‑line work and a high‑quality Maunsell dark‑grey livery. It is intended for use by railway model enthusiasts seeking an accurate representation of the pre‑grouping SER/SECR open wagons.
