Manufacturer description

37903
Flying the flag for their as-converted condition in Railfreight grey is 37903, the former 37249/D6949. Outshopped from BREL Crewe in February 1987, the former Eastern Regional machine quickly readjusted to its return to South Wales, having been delivered to Cardiff Canton in December 1964. Dedicated to Railfreight Metals duties, albeit with the odd coal turn, it was one of the first pair of Class 37/9s to gain the Roundel triple-grey livery in August 1988, although curiously with BR arrow decals rather than the aluminium castings afforded to most other repaints. Happily this was rectified by 1989, although Canton never did go so far as to apply depot plaques at the other end. Despite joining the Trainload Freight West fleet, later Transrail, in 1994, it retained its Metals brandings right to the final curtain in December 1998, EWS deciding not to authorise a required ‘C’ exam required for it to remain in traffic. Another victim of the non-standard nature of the Class 37/9s combined with accelerating Class 66 deliveries. 37903 hung on until April 2005 and was the last to be scrapped, cutting being undertaken by a Harry Needle team at Crewe Diesel Depot.

Accurascale has released a new OO scale model of Class 37/9 locomotive No. 37903, which is part of the Railfreight fleet. This model features a highly detailed die-cast metal chassis and is designed to accurately represent the Class 37/9 in its Railfreight livery.

The Class 37/9 was introduced in the late 1980s as part of the British Rail Sectorisation programme. It was designed to be a more efficient and reliable locomotive, with a Mirrlees Blackstone MB275T engine or a Ruston RK270T engine, both of which were capable of producing over 2,000hp. The Class 37/9s were initially used for heavy freight duties, including the Port Talbot-Llanwern iron ore trains.

This Accurascale model is available in DCC sound version, which features an ESU LokSound V5 DCC chip and a customised dual-speaker technology. It also includes a high-performance traction system, with a five-pole motor and metal helical gearbox. The model is DCC ready and comes with a PowerPack super-capacitor for uninterrupted power and slow speed running.

The model features a range of detailed components, including a highly accurate tumbleholme, nose, cab roof, and cantrail curves. It also includes multiple body and nose slides to accurately represent various members of the Class 37/9 fleet. The model is available with or without bufferbeam skirts, cab roof vents, and bodyside windows, and features a range of other detailed components, including grab handles, aerials, steps, wipers, nameplates, and crests.

The Class 37/9 has a complex history, with many of the locomotives being reprieved from scrapping and finding new homes in preservation. The Accurascale model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of this iconic locomotive, and is sure to be a popular addition to any model railway layout.

The model is available in DCC sound version, which features a high-quality sound system and realistic sound effects. It also includes a range of lighting options, including directional lighting, headlights, and WIPAC light clusters.

The model is designed to be highly versatile, with a range of features that allow it to be used on a variety of model railways. It is available with OO gauge wheels, and can be re-gauged to P4 or EM gauge using separate wheels. The model is also designed to be highly durable, with a minimum radius of 438mm (2nd Radius Set-track).
