Manufacturer description

The highlight of the Direct Rail Services' annual open day in 2022 - the first such event since 2019 - was the official unveiling of 37218 in a 'heritage' livery backdating the centre headcode machine to its original DRS paint scheme with rectangular branding that it wore after departing Brush Traction, Loughborough in 2002. This was one of five Class 37/0s to be put through a major refurbishment in the early 2000s, which included extensive reworking to the nose ends with WIPAC light clusters, top headlight and DRS multiple working equipment as well as a full cab upgrade with new control desk and sound proofed partition to bring them up to an almost identical specification to the operator's Class 37/6 locos that featured heavily in our first production run. Although intially outshopped with plated headcode still extant this was removed on its repaint into the 'fade' scheme in 2014 and the Accurascale model will correctly feature the smoothed off nose, toughened windscreens and welded long range fuel tank of the real thing.

Accurascale has released a new OO scale model of Class 37/0 locomotive 37218 in a heritage repaint of its original DRS livery. The model is DCC ready with a 21-pin socket and features a highly detailed interior with lighting. It has a minimum radius curve requirement of 438mm and all-wheel power pickup.

The model is a highly detailed representation of the real locomotive, with accurate tumbleholme, nose, cab roof, and cantrail curves taken from 3D laser scans and extensive surveys. It features timeframe-specific details, including bogies, fuel tanks, and nose grilles, as well as illuminated split headcode displays with a selection of different four-character headcodes.

The model is available with or without bufferbeam skirts, cab roof vents, and bodyside windows, and features multiple body and nose slides to accurately represent almost every member of the Class 37/0. It has separately applied etched metal and high-fidelity plastic detail parts, including grab handles, aerials, steps, wipers, nameplates, and crests.

The model is DCC sound fitted with an ESU LokSound 5 chip and features customised dual-speaker technology, with a large EM2-style bass speaker and a smaller 'iphone' style cube for higher frequencies. It has high-performance traction, including a high-quality five-pole motor with two flywheels and a metal helical gearbox for maximum performance and slow-speed running.

The model features a fully detailed lighting pack, including directional lighting on DC and DCC, fully functional headlights, engine bay lighting, and separately switched cab lighting. It also has a switchable red tail light. The model's wheels are RP25-110 profile OO gauge, with provision for re-gauging to P4 and EM gauge, and have a minimum radius curve requirement of 438mm.
