Manufacturer description

37902 British Steel Llanwern
Released to traffic in repowered form at the same time as Mirrlees Pioneer in October 1986, 37902 was rebuilt from 37148/D6848 and other than niggling silencer and turbocharger issues quickly showed the impressive reliability and fuel efficiency of the MB275T and Brush BA1005A alternator combination. Like several members of the Class 37/9 sub class it was initially repainted in the unbranded version of the new Roundel-designed triple-grey Railfreight image, and retained this appearance until the first months of 1991 when Metals sub sector branding was applied. The livery was further enhanced the following July by its naming British Steel Llanwern and the addition of British Steel crests and Cardiff Canton depot plaques. The name lasted just 15 months before being removed during a period of store and swapped onto 56054. Returned to traffic in early 1993, the locomotive retained its plaques into 1997, and was a regular performer on steel trains into the Midlands into the early EWS era. One of the last pair to be retired in January 1999 along with No. 37906, there would be no EWS heritage fleet reprieve and preservation for 37902. While there was a brief burst of optimism in 2002 when it was purchased by Direct Rail Services as an engine test bed, plans for a return to service were quashed and it was despatched to Sims Metals at Beeston in March 2005 for disposal.

The Accurascale OO scale model of the Class 37/9 diesel locomotive, number 37902, is a highly detailed representation of a Railfreight Metals locomotive. This model is part of the Class 37 series, which was introduced in the late 1980s as a result of the 'Class 38' project.

The Class 37/9s were a variant of the Class 37 locomotive, with the addition of new engines from Hawker Siddeley and GEC Transportation. These engines provided improved fuel efficiency and reduced maintenance costs. The locomotives were introduced in 1986 and were initially allocated to Cardiff Canton for use in the Metals sub-sector.

The model features a highly detailed OO scale design, with a heavy die-cast metal chassis and accurate tumbleholme, nose, cab roof, and cantrail curves. The model includes a range of timeframe-specific details, including different bogies, fuel tanks, and headcode displays. The Class 37/9s were known for their reliability and impressive fuel efficiency, and this model aims to capture these characteristics.

The model is available with or without DCC sound, and includes a range of features such as directional lighting, functional headlights, and a detailed lighting pack. The locomotive is also equipped with a high-performance traction system, including a five-pole motor and metal helical gearbox.

The Accurascale model is a highly detailed representation of the Class 37/9 locomotive, and is suitable for use with OO gauge track and rolling stock. The model is designed to be highly realistic, with a range of features that capture the characteristics of the real locomotives.
