Manufacturer description

37903
Flying the flag for their as-converted condition in Railfreight grey is 37903, the former 37249/D6949. Outshopped from BREL Crewe in February 1987, the former Eastern Regional machine quickly readjusted to its return to South Wales, having been delivered to Cardiff Canton in December 1964. Dedicated to Railfreight Metals duties, albeit with the odd coal turn, it was one of the first pair of Class 37/9s to gain the Roundel triple-grey livery in August 1988, although curiously with BR arrow decals rather than the aluminium castings afforded to most other repaints. Happily this was rectified by 1989, although Canton never did go so far as to apply depot plaques at the other end. Despite joining the Trainload Freight West fleet, later Transrail, in 1994, it retained its Metals brandings right to the final curtain in December 1998, EWS deciding not to authorise a required ‘C’ exam required for it to remain in traffic. Another victim of the non-standard nature of the Class 37/9s combined with accelerating Class 66 deliveries. 37903 hung on until April 2005 and was the last to be scrapped, cutting being undertaken by a Harry Needle team at Crewe Diesel Depot.

Accurascale has produced a model of the Class 37/9 locomotive, specifically 37903, a Railfreight diesel locomotive. This model is a highly detailed OO scale representation of the locomotive, featuring a heavy die-cast metal chassis and accurate details taken from 3D laser scans and extensive surveys.

The model is representative of the locomotive during the British Rail Sectorisation period and features a range of time-specific details, including different bogies, fuel tanks, and buffer styles. The model is available with or without bufferbeam skirts, cab roof vents, and bodyside windows, and features multiple body and nose slides to accurately represent almost every member of the class.

The locomotive's interior is also detailed, with options for different cab interiors, and the model features a range of details, including grab handles, aerials, steps, wipers, nameplates, crests, and more. The model is DCC ready, with a 21-pin MTX socket, and is also available with factory-installed DCC sound, featuring an ESU LokSound V5 DCC chip and customised dual-speaker technology.

The model features high-performance traction, with a high-quality five-pole motor and metal helical gearbox, allowing the locomotive to achieve a scale top speed of 100 mph. The model also features a fully detailed lighting pack, including directional lighting, headlamps, and WIPAC light clusters.

The model is designed to be highly detailed and accurate, with a range of features that set it apart from other models. The manufacturer has used 3D laser scans and extensive surveys to create a highly accurate representation of the locomotive.
