Accurascale has released a OO scale model of EWS Class 66 locomotive 66171. The model is based on the Class 66, a six-axle diesel locomotive built by Electro-Motive Diesel between 1998 and 2008, and again between 2014 and 2015.

The model is a highly detailed representation of the locomotive, featuring a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile OO wheels, and separately applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The model has a minimum radius requirement of 438mm, making it suitable for use on medium-sized layouts.

The locomotive features a powerful twin flywheel motor, all-wheel drive and all-wheel pickup, allowing for smooth and reliable operation. The model is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket and the option for factory-fitted DCC sound. Additional features include a powerpack capacitor for uninterrupted power, and a kinetic NEM coupler mount with mini-tension-lock couplers.

The model also includes a range of lighting features, including directional lighting, switchable red and white marker lights, and separately switched cab lighting. The model is a highly realistic representation of the Class 66, and is suitable for use on both DC and DCC layouts.

The model is a faithful representation of the EWS livery, with the locomotive still carrying the original maroon and gold colours. The model is an excellent choice for modellers looking to add a highly detailed and realistic Class 66 to their collection.
