Manufacturer description

The arrival of 66001 on to British soil at 08:53 on the 18th of Aprill 1998 heralded a new dawn for British rail freight, the first of several hundred locomotives of a type that would revolutionise Railfreight across the UK (and Europe). There were a few subtle differences between the first two and the rest of the production batch which have never been replicated before on a model. Firstly the lashing eyes to secure the locomotive to the ship were in a different position to later models. The horn grille was also mounted almost flush with the body. Visually 66001 looked more striking owing to its red grilles which were later changed to black.

Our Class 66 model is based on the award winning ‘accura-standard’ platform, with all-wheel powered six-axle bogies, a powerful twin flywheel fitted motor and market leading electronics package.

Accurascale Class 66 – EWS Maroon – 66001 is a model locomotive released under the part number ACC2573. It is presented in the EWS livery and represents the Class 66 type during the Initial Privatisation period of British rail freight.

The prototype locomotive 66001 arrived on British tracks at 08:53 on 18 April 1998, marking the introduction of a new generation of freight engines that would become widely used across the United Kingdom and Europe.

The first two units of the class, including 66001, differed subtly from later production examples. The lashing eyes used for securing the locomotive to a ship were positioned differently, the horn grille was mounted almost flush with the body, and the grille colour was red rather than the black adopted on subsequent locomotives.

The model is built on the accura‑standard platform and features all‑wheel‑powered six‑axle bogies, a twin flywheel fitted motor and a market‑leading electronics package.
