Manufacturer description

66091 arrived in the UK in 1999 and, like the rest of the EWS fleet, was put straight into service. Like 66017, it was not initially fitted with auto-couplers or mirrors, gaining these during the mid-2000s. 66091 retained its EWS livery until June 2020, when it became the first to be repainted into plain DRS blue as part of a locomotive hire contract, along with a number of other DB Class 66s. It was returned to DB Cargo in early 2024 and reinstated to the DB fleet in full red livery in early 2025. On 19 July 2025, 66091 was named “Accurascale” in recognition of the charity work undertaken for DB Cargo’s charity partner and the funds raised through the previously produced 66190 “Martin House”.

Accurascale Class 66 DB No.66091 is a 4‑axle diesel locomotive model presented in DB livery. It carries the manufacturer part number ACC3462 and represents the initial privatisation era of the Class 66 fleet. The model is DCC ready and can be fitted with a 21‑pin MTX socket or an original ESU LokSound 5 decoder.

The locomotive is powered by a five‑pole motor with two flywheels and gearing that allows a minimum scale top speed of 75 mph (120 km h). It features all‑wheel drive, all‑wheel pickup and a PowerPack capacitor that provides uninterrupted power on DCC operation. Optional DCC‑sound versions include a customised dual‑speaker system with a large bass speaker and a smaller high‑frequency cube, together with a hall sensor for a flange‑squeal effect.

The prototype entered service in the United Kingdom in 1999. It remained in EWS livery until June 2020, when it became the first of its class to be repainted in plain DRS blue under a hire contract. The locomotive returned to DB Cargo in early 2024 and was restored to full red DB livery in early 2025. On 19 July 2025 it was named “Accurascale” in recognition of charitable work linked to DB Cargo’s partner charity.

Model enhancements include a newly tooled exhaust silencer, revised handbrake linkages moulded in the off position, an etched middle handrail bracket on the cab front, and the option to represent roof‑mounted Wi‑Fi pods, Freightliner cab‑door handle changes and BMAC‑replacement lighting units. New buffer‑plate combinations allow additional prototype variations, and the lighting pack offers directional DC and DCC lighting, switchable red and white marker lights with day/night options, and separately switched cab lighting that can auto‑off on movement.
