Manufacturer description

66601 arrived aboard the ‘M.V. Stellanova’ on 13 November 2000. The 66/6 sub-class was built with a lower gear ratio, enabling heavier trains to be hauled, albeit at lower speeds due to higher tractive effort. There were 25 examples of this sub-class, numbered 66601–66625, some of which have since been exported for use with Freightliner Poland. 66601 was named “The Hope Valley” to mark the partnership between Freightliner and Blue Circle Cement. Like 66501, it retained its original paint until 2025, when it was repainted dark green with commemorative decals at Eastleigh, emerging in March 2025. This locomotive has now received the modified driver’s door handle arrangement, with the upper handle plated over.

Accurascale Class 66 Freightliner (60th Anniversary) No. 66601 is a diesel‑locomotive model fitted with DCC Sound. It carries the Freightliner livery and is supplied as a DCC‑ready unit (21‑pin MTX socket) with a factory‑fitted ESU LokSound 5 decoder option. The model represents the early privatisation era of British freight railways.

The prototype, 66601, arrived in the United Kingdom on 13 November 2000 aboard the M.V. Stellanova. It belongs to the 66/6 sub‑class, which uses a lower gear ratio for higher tractive effort at reduced speed. The locomotive was named “The Hope Valley” to mark the partnership between Freightliner and Blue Circle Cement and retained its original paint until it was repainted dark green with commemorative decals at Eastleigh in March 2025. The unit now features the modified driver’s door‑handle arrangement with the upper handle plated over.

Accurascale’s model incorporates a number of refinements to match the evolving fleet. These include a newly tooled exhaust silencer, revised handbrake linkages moulded in the off position, an etched middle handrail bracket on the cab front, roof‑mounted Wi‑Fi pods, updated cab‑door handles, and BMAC‑replacement lighting units. New buffer‑plate combinations allow additional prototype variations to be represented.

The deluxe features comprise a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, customised dual‑speaker technology with a large “Accurathrash” style bass speaker and a smaller “iphone” style cube for higher frequencies, and a Hall sensor to produce a flange‑squeal effect – all applicable to the DCC Sound‑fitted version.

High‑performance traction is provided by a five‑pole motor with two flywheels and gearing that enables a minimum scale top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h). The locomotive has all‑wheel drive and all‑wheel pickup. Lighting is fully detailed, offering directional illumination, switchable red and white marker lights with day/night modes, and separately switched cab lighting that can be set to auto or off on movement.
