Manufacturer description

Colas Rail Freight leased 5 class 66 locomotives following the collapse of Advenza freight (numbered 66841 to 66845), in 2011 these locomotives were then leased on to GBRF. Leaving a hole in the fleet, Colas purchased 5 class 66 locomotives from Freightliner (formerly numbered 66573 to 66577). These 5 were given a fresh coat of Colas’ house colours and renumbered to 66846 to 66850. 66849 was given the name of “Wylam Dilly” straight after its repainting and has carried it to this day. Wylam Dilly is the second oldest surviving steam locomotive in the world and was built for hauling coal at Wylam Colliery near Newcastle in 1815.

Accurascale has released a OO scale model of the Class 66 diesel locomotive, No. 66849, in GBrF livery. This model features DCC sound and is a representation of the locomotive as it appeared during the initial privatisation period.

The model is highly detailed and includes a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile OO wheels, and separately applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The locomotive also features a full underframe tank detail and fully sprung buffers.

This model is available with DCC sound, which includes a customised Dual-Speaker Technology and a hall sensor for a flange squeal effect. The DCC sound model also features a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power. The locomotive is DCC ready and comes with a 21-pin socket for fitting a decoder.

The model features directional lighting, DC and DCC, with switchable red and white marker lights that can be controlled with day/night options. The cab lighting is separately switched and can be set to auto or off when the locomotive is in motion.

The model is available in OO scale, with a minimum recommended radius of 438mm for use on second radius track. The locomotive was originally built in 2000 and was originally numbered 66250. It was later renumbered 66789 and has been preserved in a GBrF livery to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the formation of British Railways in 1948.
