Manufacturer description

66601 arrived aboard the ‘M.V. Stellanova’ on 13 November 2000. The 66/6 sub-class was built with a lower gear ratio, enabling heavier trains to be hauled, albeit at lower speeds due to higher tractive effort. There were 25 examples of this sub-class, numbered 66601–66625, some of which have since been exported for use with Freightliner Poland. 66601 was named “The Hope Valley” to mark the partnership between Freightliner and Blue Circle Cement. Like 66501, it retained its original paint until 2025, when it was repainted dark green with commemorative decals at Eastleigh, emerging in March 2025. This locomotive has now received the modified driver’s door handle arrangement, with the upper handle plated over.

Accurascale Class 66 Freightliner (60th Anniversary) No.66601 is a 4‑mm scale model of a diesel locomotive supplied as DCC ready. It carries the Freightliner livery, is designated as Class 66, and is listed under the manufacturer part number ACC3465. The model represents the initial privatisation period of the British rail freight network.

The prototype 66601 arrived on the M.V. Stellanova on 13 November 2000. It belongs to the 66/6 sub‑class, which was built with a lower gear ratio to provide higher tractive effort at reduced speed. A total of 25 locomotives were produced in this sub‑class, numbered 66601–66625, some of which have later been exported to Freightliner Poland. The unit was named “The Hope Valley” to commemorate the partnership between Freightliner and Blue Circle Cement. It retained its original paint until it was repainted dark green with commemorative decals at Eastleigh in March 2025, and it now features the modified driver’s door‑handle arrangement with the upper handle plated over.

Accurascale has introduced several refinements to the Class 66 tooling to reflect changes in the real‑world fleet. These include a newly tooled exhaust silencer with enhanced detailing, handbrake linkages moulded in the off position, and an etched middle handrail bracket on the cab front for locomotives that carry this feature. The model can also represent roof‑mounted Wi‑Fi pods, the revised Freightliner cab‑door handle, and BMAC‑replacement lighting units. New buffer‑plate combinations have been added to allow further prototype variations.

The model is equipped with a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power and, on DCC‑sound fitted examples, a customised dual‑speaker system consisting of a large “Accurathrash” style bass speaker and a smaller cube for higher frequencies, together with a hall sensor for flange squeal effects. It is DCC ready via a 21‑pin MTX socket or can be supplied with an original ESU LokSound 5 decoder. The locomotive uses a five‑pole motor with two flywheels, gearing that enables a minimum scale top speed of 75 mph (120 kph), and all‑wheel drive and pickup. Lighting is fully detailed with directional, DC and DCC‑controlled units, switchable red and white marker lights with day/night settings, and separately switched cab lighting that operates automatically on movement.
