The final locomotives were built between 1946 and 1949 with the last twenty not receiving Great Western livery.

General Specification

Many original GA drawings were used in the development of these accurate and authentic models. To portray these locomotives over their lifetime the following details will be available where they are applicable through the addition of many separately added details

Dapol’s expertise in tool planning and design has allowed for other desirable Prairie variations to modelled at later dates such as the 3100, later 5100 and the 8100 prairies to be produced

The Dapol Large Prairie 6153 is a model of a BR black locomotive with an early emblem, representing the 5101 class of large prairie locomotives. These locomotives were built at the GWR Swindon Works between 1929 and 1949, with the final twenty not receiving the Great Western livery.

The model features a 2-6-2T wheel arrangement and operates on a minimum radius curve of 438mm. It is designed for OO gauge and is compatible with DCC systems. The model includes a range of separately added details, including two styles of safety valve cover, a bunker lamp bracket shield, and a smokebox number plate for the BR period.

The locomotive features a powerful 5-pole skew wound motor and a toolless DCC and speaker installation PCB, allowing for easy installation of DCC and sound systems. The model also includes a compensated chassis for reliable running and pick-up through all driving wheels, as well as finely engineered motion and prototypical connecting rods.

The model is available with a range of optional features, including different cab profiles, curved and straight drop front running plates, and motion brackets. Sound versions will be available, incorporating recorded sounds and features such as RealDrive, which allows the user to drive the train for a more immersive experience.

The model represents the locomotives during the British Railways Early Crest period, and is a highly detailed and accurate representation of the real thing.
