Manufacturer description

Locomotive background Information

The 5101 class of large prairie locomotives were updated versions of the 3100 class and built between 1929 and 1939 which included the 6100 series, with a higher boiler pressure and designed for London suburban services. The final locomotives were built between 1946 and 1949 with the last twenty not receiving Great Western livery.

General Specification

Many original GA drawings were used in the development of these accurate and authentic models. To portray these locomotives over their lifetime the following details will be available where they are applicable through the addition of many separately added details

Dapol’s expertise in tool planning and design has allowed for other desirable Prairie variations to modelled at later dates such as the 3100, later 5100 and the 8100 prairies to be produced

The Dapol Large Prairie 5134 model is a representation of a GWR green liveried steam locomotive. This model is part of the OO gauge range and features a 2-6-2T wheel arrangement. The locomotive is built to a scale accurate design, with many original GA drawings used in its development.

The model is designed to allow for a range of variations, with different details available to reflect the locomotive's use over its lifetime. These details include different safety valve covers, lamp brackets, and water filler covers, as well as various cab profiles and motion brackets.

The technical specification of the model includes a powerful 5 pole skew wound motor, a compensated chassis for reliable running, and all wheel drive. The model also features spring buffers, diecast and profiled wheels, and finely engineered motion. Sound fitted versions will be available, featuring recorded sounds and a RealDrive function.

The model is suitable for use on minimum radius curves of 438mm, and is designed to be easy to convert to DCC using a pull-out PCB with a NEXT-18 decoder socket. The model is built to meet the needs of modellers of the Big Four era, from the 1920s to the 1960s.
