Manufacturer description

Prior to the standardisation of wagon design by the RCH in 1923 there were many variants available, depending on builder and region. Indeed, the standardisation of wagons was not universally adopted and took many years to gain acceptance and in this time variations were common and worked side by side with the standard design.

One of the variations that were often seen was the 7 Plank internally braced design. This had a shorter wheelbase (9 foot) than the standard design, had no end doors and had a capacity of 10 tons.

The Dapol 7 Plank Wagon with a 9‑ft wheelbase is modelled in OO gauge and carries the Charles Wilson livery. It is designed to represent a wagon from the era of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR) and is supplied under the part number 4F‑072‑013.

Before the 1923 standardisation of wagon design by the Railway Clearing House, many regional variations existed. The 7‑plank internally braced type, from which this model is derived, featured a shorter wheelbase than the later standard design, lacked end doors and had a 10‑ton capacity.

The model includes profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurately applied livery and a coal load. It uses NEM/Tension‑lock couplings and can negotiate a minimum radius of curve 1.

Measurements are 74 mm in length over buffer, 33 mm in width and 35 mm in height. The wagon is produced by various companies on behalf of Dapol.
