Manufacturer description

The 7 plank wagon was the standard coal wagon up to the 1930’s when steel mineral wagons were developed. In 1923 the RCH produced a standard plan for the 7 plank wagon, as up to this time there were many variations depending on the builder and region. However, even after the standard was applied, many non-standard wagons were still used.

The Dapol 7 Plank Wagon 9ft Wheelbase Gregory No.109 is a weathered OO gauge model. It has a length of 74mm, a width of 33mm, and a height of 35mm. The model has a minimum recommended radius curve of Radius 1 and is fitted with NEM/Tension lock couplings. The model is available in a Gregory livery and is built to represent 7 Plank wagons with a 9ft wheelbase, a design that was prevalent before the standardisation of wagon design in 1923.

Prior to 1923, wagon designs varied depending on the builder and region. The 7 Plank internally braced design with a 9ft wheelbase was one such variation, characterised by the absence of end doors and a capacity of 10 tons. The model is a recreation of this design, with finely moulded details and a coal load included. The livery has been accurately applied to the model.

The model is part of a range of 7 Plank wagons with a 9ft wheelbase, built by various companies during the pre-grouping period. The model is designed to be a detailed and realistic representation of the original wagons, with profiled wheels and a finely moulded body.
