Manufacturer description

Prior to the standardisation of wagon design by the RCH in 1923 there were many variants available, depending on builder and region. Indeed, the standardisation of wagons was not universally adopted and took many years to gain acceptance and in this time variations were common and worked side by side with the standard design.

One of the variations that were often seen was the 7 Plank internally braced design. This had a shorter wheelbase (9 foot) than the standard design, had no end doors and had a capacity of 10 tons.

Dapol 7 Plank Wagon 9 ft Wheelbase Mold Colliery (model number 4F‑072‑021) is an OO‑scale model representing a 7‑plank, internally braced wagon used by the former Mold Colliery. The model is finished in a weathered livery and carries a NEM/Tension‑lock coupling. It is designed to operate on a minimum radius of Curve 1 and was produced by various companies before the Railway Clearing House standardisation in 1923.

The wagon has a 9 ft wheelbase, a capacity of ten tons and lacks end doors, reflecting the historic variant that co‑existed with the later standard design. The period represented by the model is the era of the Big Four railway companies – LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

Physical specifications are as follows: length over buffers 74 mm, width 33 mm, height 35 mm. The model features profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurately applied Mold Colliery livery and a coal load.

These details make the model a highly detailed addition to an OO‑scale rolling stock collection.
