Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity.

They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s. To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8 Plank Wagon (Unpainted) – Model A006

The model is supplied in an unpainted livery with a pristine finish. Its dimensions are 82 mm in length, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height. It is designed for a minimum curve radius of 1 and uses NEM tension‑lock couplings. The wagon represents the era of the Big Four railway companies – LNER, LMS, GWR and SR.

The 8‑plank wagon is a development of the earlier 7‑plank type and was primarily used as a coal wagon for less dense coal such as coke. The additional height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. They were constructed from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. Loading and unloading were facilitated by side doors and a tip‑over end door.
