Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8 Plank Wagon Llay Main 954 Grey is a OO gauge model measuring 82 mm in length, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height. It is presented in the Llay Main livery, rides on a minimum radius of 1 and uses NEM tension lock couplings. The manufacturer part number is 4F‑080‑128 and it represents the era of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).

The full size 8 plank wagon was introduced as a development of the earlier 7 plank type and was designed for carrying less dense coal such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. These wagons were constructed from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. Loading and unloading were facilitated by side doors and the ability to tip the wagon from the end door.

The model is highly detailed, featuring profiled wheels, a finely moulded body and a realistic coal load. The livery is accurately applied and the wagon includes NEM pockets with self‑centring couplers, making it a suitable addition to any OO gauge rolling stock collection.

Overall dimensions are length over buffers 82 mm, width 33 mm and height 37 mm.
