Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8 Plank open wagon “SPC” – 5009 Weathered is an OO gauge model representing a late‑1920s to late‑1930s coal wagon. The model is supplied in a weathered finish, painted in the Smith Parkinson and Cole livery, and carries the manufacturer part number 4F‑080‑113. It is fitted with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings and conforms to a minimum radius curve of 1. The wagon measures 82 mm in length over buffers, 33 mm in width and 37 mm in height.

The original 8‑plank wagon was an evolution of the earlier 7‑plank design, intended for the transport of less dense coal such as coke. Its increased height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. Built between the late 1920s and the late 1930s, these wagons remained in service until the late 1960s and featured side doors for loading and unloading, with the ability to tip from an end door.

The model includes profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, and a coal load applied to the interior. Livery details are accurately reproduced and NEM pockets are fitted with self‑centring couplers. All dimensions are provided in metric units, suitable for integration into OO gauge rolling stock collections.
