Manufacturer description

The 8 plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7 plank version and was primarily a coal wagon, carrying the less dense forms of coal (coke etc), where the extra height allowed it to carry its full 12 ton capacity. They were built in the late 1920s to the late 1930s and continued into service up to the late 1960s.

To aid unloading and loading they had a door at each side and could be tipped from the one opening end door.

Dapol 8‑plank wagon, Embling & Son (part number 4F‑080‑122), is supplied in OO gauge. It measures 82 mm over buffers, 33 mm wide and 37 mm high, and is finished in pristine condition with an Embling & Son livery. The model is equipped with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings, has NEM pockets, and can navigate a minimum radius of 1 chain. It represents the era of the Big Four railway companies (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).

The full‑size 8‑plank wagon was a development of the earlier 7‑plank type, intended for the transport of less dense coal such as coke. The added height allowed a full 12‑ton capacity. These wagons were built from the late 1920s to the late 1930s and remained in service until the late 1960s. Loading and unloading were facilitated by side doors and the ability to tip the wagon from an end door.

The model reproduces the prototype in high detail, featuring profiled wheels, a finely moulded body, an accurately applied livery and a realistic coal load. NEM pockets with self‑centring couplers complete the specification, making it a suitable addition to any OO‑scale rolling‑stock collection.
